Charge Lag

Does anybody have experience with reducing Charge Lag days in the OR? If so, can you share what were the top reasons contributing to the Charge Lag?

  • Some charge duties were dependent on one person without back up in place for PTO or sick leave.

  • An issue for us is waiting for supplies to be created in the surgery system at the corporate level. If this isn't monitored, then claims go out the door without the supply charge. If known, we can put a claim on hold until the charge posts.

  • We have the same issue as Kay referenced. Often times, the supply/implant/device holds up the ability to process the charges waiting on supply chain to add the item, etc.

  • We have experienced both situations with the person responsible being on PTO with no replacement/backup and waiting on supply invoices. We have gone back and forth about putting the claims on hold or being late charges. Now we are placing the account on hold to minimize touch points.
