Price Per Procedure (PPP)

Hello Everyone,

Do you have experience building a price-per-procedure (PPP) in the Chargemaster and inventory system? Vendor A sells a PPP to our hospital that includes 20+ products. We have built a line item, "X Thrombectomy System," and linked it to C1757 and REV 0272. However, this is not a physical product; we have given it a "dummy code." The physical products have a $0.01 charge associated with each one (e.g., 20+ products).

Since the PPP is not a physical product, it cannot be "decremented" in the reordering system. The parent charge for the PPP must be applied since it carries all the cost/charge. If we don't, we can potentially miss out on commercial reimbursement and understate our cost.

Does anyone on this platform have some "tips" that you can share with me about these topics?

1-Chargemaster set-up

2-Ordering

3-Reordering

  • We do have a similar item, but I think the answer you really need is going to be dependent on which system you're using, and how your charging for that area is set up.

If you're using Epic, there's "orderable/performable" functionality where you can create "exploding" charges- the charge code entered separates into multiple charges upon hitting the patient's account, with potentially different prices/codes for each. Beyond that, linking the charge code to certain items (or not) may vary based on how that department is charging (like Epic's Optime vs an interface for cath lab).
