LenSx - billing for use of laser in corrective lens cataract surgery
Vendor is telling us that using LenSx laser for traditional Medicare patients is billable to the patient in the following scenario:
Signed ABN on file. Patient receives a corrective lens, either for astigmatism or presbyopia, laser used during the same session as cataract removal.
We are trying to determine if the laser use is billable to the patient because it is being used to actually support the vision correction and achieve precise alignment necessary for the placement of the advanced technology IOL.
Is your facility successfully billing the patient for the use of LenSx in this scenario? Are there specific guidelines to physician documentation required to ensure compliant billing? I'd love to talk with another organization about your experience with billing this service.
