OP Lab specimens
I am seeking some input for lab tests that are ordered during a patient visit/encounter but the specimens is later brought in by patient on a different DOS (e.g. 24 hour urines) for which the patient does not have a clinical visit. Is a new OP encounter created for the specimen/lab test to be reported for the hospital or, if brought back the next day, can the previous OP encounter from the day before have the discharge day extended on the Claim to cover the DOS for billing (expand the From and To date range on the claim. Looking for compliant options and best practice. Just to clarify these are not non-patient specimens collected elsewhere and sent as a referral lab test.
