Revenue Codes for Supplies
When building new charge codes for supplies in the Chargemaster, how do you determine if Rev Code 271 -Non-sterile vs. Rev Code 272 Sterile supply is applied. There are times when a supply is showing as being packaged as Non-sterile but it must be sterilized before using in on the patient.
Do you apply the rev code based on the packaging information or based on how it will be used?

I would think either way is appropriate, either if it comes sterilized, or if it goes through a sterilization process in your supply chain / materials management process. For the latter ours are re-packaged and labeled internally, so that's the label information that is scanned or otherwise recorded.
